FOUGARO ARTCENTER in Nafplio welcomes the painting exhibition of Rodi Konstantoglou in the BLUE2 Gallery.
Her works, made of acrylic on paper or canvas, are presented in a unique rhythm, due to the way she manages the contrasts between pure colors.
Intense patterns highlight faces, animals and landscapes, seeking balance in the composition, with the personal idiom of the painter making her style recognizable.
Rodi Konstantoglou built a very solid background in design and the use of color, studying fashion design at Parsons School of Design in New York and fabric design at St. Martin's School of Art in London. She was artistically formed in the years when Pop Art peaked, a movement that brought radical cuts to both the visual and applied arts. After an international career in design, Rodi Konstantoglou took over her parents’ business, the well-known Athenian store “Mati”, which highlighted Greek traditional handicrafts and folk art. Elements from her diverse references uniquely converse in her works, radiating energy and color.
As the also visual artist, Christina Darra, observes: “her experience with color and the power of drawing is obvious, but it does not stop at craftsmanship. Her painting captures the moment in time, conveys how vulnerable we are within it, and safely embraces the moments in color. And while there is not a single misplaced brushstroke and the color tones are in absolute harmony, the works are neither descriptive nor do they feel strict.
The opposite: they have the fluidity of sound and the presence of human existence, the sense of the eye that observes and the hand that paints. It is a testimony of presence that says, yes I am here, I breathe, I exist. With the clarity of another era, more analog, less digital, and they address the viewer, in a dialogue that is sincere, emotional and effortless, like a melody.
